Rev. Larry Long became the pastor of Fellowship Community Church (FCC) in 2001. He assumed the senior pastorate here after 10½ years as the solo pastor of a small country church in South Louisiana.
Larry was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He graduated from Crown College (BA) in Minnesota, and then earned a Master of Divinity Degree (M.Div.) from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. He and his wife, Melissa, were married in Oklahoma City in 1986, where they lived for several years before entering full-time ministry. 43Larry received Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at the age of 7. He was called to full-time ministry in 1976 while attending a Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) youth conference in Saint Louis, Missouri. Upon finishing both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in preparation to fulfill his calling, Larry was licensed for ministry in the Christ-centered, Spirit-filled, missionary-focused, and biblically-grounded denomination called the Christian and Missionary Alliance in 1989. He was later ordained for ministry by this same body.
Larry has sought to faithfully serve FCC in both pastoral care and the proclamation of the Word. He primarily preaches expository messages that expound the meaning of the Word in its original context, and then show how it applies to life today. He has also served his District Church as the Corporate Secretary, as a member of its Licensing, Ordination, and Consecration Council, and as moderator of their District Conferences.
Larry seeks to faithfully shepherd the wider-community of Midland and the Permian Basin by leading the Midland Ministerial Alliance for two, two-year terms as President. For nearly 15 years he has enjoyed leading a men’s disciple group (called “Ironmen” after Proverbs 27:17), for the past five years he has brought the Word and Holy Communion to the elderly and disabled clients at the Mission Center Adult Day Care each week, and for the past three years he has hosted a live call-in radio show called “The Intersection” at KWEL Radio (AM 1070, FM 107.1, KWEL.com). This show airs live from 1:00 to 2:00 each Sunday afternoon. Larry enjoys hunting and fishing and involving other men in these activities. He reads widely and writes constantly. He enjoys working on his own vehicles and doing physical labor for the sense of a job-well-done and money-saved. He once enjoyed watching football, but no longer cares for which team wins, as long as it isn’t the Patriots. firstname.lastname@example.org www.cmalliance.org www.midlandma.org
Pastor Lonnie Phillips
Pastor Lonnie Phillips, his wife, Candice, and their two children, Abigail and Stephen, moved to Midland, TX, in June of 2016 to assume the position of Assistant Pastor at Fellowship Community Church (FCC).
He has been pastoring, counseling, and teaching God’s word for twenty years in both Asia and the United States. Lonnie especially enjoys mentoring and counselling individuals and married couples with his wife, who has her Master’s Degree in Christian Counseling from Asbury Theological Seminary. He is the author of the book, Journey Toward Christ Centered Emotions. Lonnie’s passion is to see those within the body of Christ find healing at the feet of Jesus and to fulfill their calling as disciples who are called to go and make disciples.
Lonnie was born and raised in the Texas Panhandle. He gave his life to Jesus Christ in the spring of 1989 as a student at Texas Tech University where he eventually received a Bachelor’s degree in 1992. Lonnie received his Master’s in Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary, in Wilmore Ky. Moving to Midland, Texas, has been a coming home for Lonnie. “As a family, we love the community of Midland and our church home at FCC.” Lonnie has especially enjoyed getting reacquainted with West Texas thunderstorms, Taco Villa, and watching either the Dallas Cowboys or New England Patriots.
Andrea Hernandez is a 30-something, married, mother of 4. Serving as the office/church administrator, she began working at Fellowship Community both young in age and in her Christian faith. The major draw in her coming to work in the church office almost 13 years ago was the ability to bring her then infant son to the office with her. The freedom to be present and active in her children’s and husband’s lives while serving God’s people and earning a living has kept her here all these years later with the last of the Hernandez children to be raised in the church office. Andrea was born in Big Spring, TX, but moved often in her childhood. She lived in Elkhart and Ft Wayne, IN , Mesa, AZ, Salisbury NC, Austin, TX, and finally settled down here in Midland. Andrea prayed to receive Christ after several years of bad choices and wayward living in 2002 while facing an insurmountable trial. Andrea and her then boyfriend, Richard, were faced with a very difficult pregnancy, a pit bull attack, and the eventual loss of their child. During these extreme trials, Andrea’s mother and the people of this church, most of whom she had never met, prayed for her and Richards’s salvation. It is an almost unbelievable but true testimony that Andrea is glad to share with anyone who asks. Andrea enjoys relaxing by the water, reading, and watching movies, none of which she does much of right now. She does enjoy watching her son and his team play football. She actually enjoys most football as long as it is not the Dallas Cowboys or New England Patriots. Go pack Go!
