Looking Forward to a New Year

12/31/2019

Pastor Lonnie Phillips

On this last day of 2019 and as we look toward 2020, it is significant in that we are saying goodbye not only to a year but also to a decade.
Isaiah 43:18-19 says, "Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it or are you not aware of it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
In this passage there is a commandment and a promise from the Lord and for those who are in Christ Jesus. The commandment is to Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. We are not able to erase our memories and the sins and hurts we have caused but God is a redeeming God and He has made a way through His Son, Jesus to forgive us and wash us completely clean. We are no longer bound by our past in Christ.
So many Christians are living self-defeated lives because they continually live looking in their rear view mirror. If I am driving and spending the majority of my time looking back and not forward, I am bound to meet with an accident that will hurt me and possibly someone else.
What Jesus did at Calvary was to bring freedom, not to look at the past but to look forward to His redeeming work in our lives.
The Promise of the Lord is, "I am doing a new thing, now it springs forth, will you not be aware of it." What Jesus Christ does is he makes the wilderness and desert times in our lives as opportunities to see His supernatural work.
In 2020 my prayer for all those who are in Christ Jesus is to become aware of what He is doing, especially if 2019 has been difficult. If you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus then consider the one who loved you so much that He died for your sins and rose again the third day!
May His grace and strength be made known to you! Have a Happy and Blessed New Year!!
